SC House and Senate to Return to Columbia May 12th-14th
Staff Report From South Carolina CEO
Friday, May 1st, 2020
The Speaker of the House Jay Lucas and Senate President Harvey Peeler announced both chambers will return to Columbia from May 12-14.
The plan as of now is to finish the continuing resolution to keep the state government funded after July 1 and a Sine Die resolution. Negotiations are continuing with House and Senate leadership to hammer out their differences on how to handle Santee Cooper. They also plan to take up any bills that have passed both Chambers. If that is the case, Charleston Metro Chamber priorities such as the affordable housing bill, the military spouse licensing bill and angel investor could be taken up. Both leaders mentioned they may invoke a provision in SC code to extend the sine die resolution by two weeks if the Board of Economic Advisors issues a state revenue forecast reduction.
