USC Upstate Will Award 826 Degrees at 2019 May Commencement

The University of South Carolina Upstate will award 826 degrees during its 2019 May Commencement. Dr. Brendan Kelly, chancellor of USC Upstate, will offer comments and words of encouragement. Dr. Harris Pastides, president of the University of South Carolina system, will deliver his final remarks at a USC Upstate commencement. USC Upstate will award posthumous degrees to two students who died during the past year, Evan J. Gaines and Jordane M. Bouchillon. Family members of both students will participate in the ceremony and accept the degrees on their behalf. The University of South Carolina’s Board of Trustees recently appointed Kelly interim president-elect of the statewide system to replace Pastides, who plans to retire this summer. USC Upstate’s former Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Dr. Meredith Brunen has been named interim chancellor of the university.
